Standard on all MerCruiser® sterndrive models, the easy oil drain system makes routine maintenance much easier and less messy. A convenient oil drain hose comes attached to the engine with a fitting and special, easy-to-remove MerCruiser drain plug that replaces the standard oil pan drain plug. The boat manufacturer or dealer simply removes the boat’s standard garboard-style bilge drain plug and replaces it with the unique MerCruiser-supplied plug. A lanyard attached to the oil drain hose allows the hose to be pulled through the boat’s bilge drain plug hole. An easily removable brass drain plug caps the end of the hose. Once the plug is removed, oil can be drained cleanly and completely from the engine into a suitable container for recycling. After the engine oil is drained, the hose plug is replaced, and the drain hose is pushed back through the boat’s bilge drain. The lanyard helps prevent the special MerCruiser bilge drain plug from being lost or misplaced.

In addition to the easy oil drain system, all fuel-injected MerCruiser models feature a remote oil filter. The oil filter is located on top of the engine, so there’s no need to crawl around in the bilge to remove and replace the oil filter during routine maintenance.

Most models also feature an oil fill tube that makes refilling the engine oil a simple, spill-free operation and eliminates the need for a funnel. Two more reasons why MerCruiser leads the way with the easiest products on the water to own and maintain.
